Noise: Can be loud or rattling when pointed in certain directions - seems random. Maybe due to a loose cardan shaft - but that's to be expected at this price point. Extraction: Not a problem, but certainly not outstanding. Performance: Judging by my photos, note the roughness on the water surface. The pump is mounted 1.5 inches from the surface/slightly tilted up. My 60 gallon tank is 48 inches wide in front, the surface waves fade/stop at about 12 inches. This little pump only gives the fish a small current to swim against. I put the pump on a timer. One hour on, three hours off, and off all night. There are no problems with the pump on the timer. The fish was not sucked into the pump, but I have fish on the surface.
