The length is great, the handle is big enough to handle heavy meat and because it's made of wood it never gets hot, the tongs have ribs that really grip the meat grip well and clean great. I didn't give five stars because on our last set the wood just fell off on both sides while the rest of the tongs were fine. We wrapped it in some thick rubber bands and used it for another year until the birthday came. The second reason is that the pliers don't stay "locked" as we would like. They lock, but then "unlock" slightly for less tight storage. But we haven't found anything better and would be lost without them. We smoke and fry a lot.
