Abrasive pads don't wear out quickly, but they don't remove material well either. I've tried sanding cast aluminum with fine, then medium, then coarse cymbals (after machine sanding with 80 grit), fine and medium didn't work. I've tried and tried with no success. I ended up having to use a rough sponge slightly to get a finish close to what I wanted.
