This is a well made carrier, stronger than me. This is the maximum thickness the jaws can open (1 inch). Since the panels are tapered at the edges, I was afraid they might crack when pressed together, but that didn't happen. You must be strong enough to move the panels alone as the grip transfers most of the weight to one hand. It's uncomfortable trying to put it on your shoulder. After feeling sorry for myself for moving drywall, my next project called for 3/4 inch MDF melamine panels weighing 95 pounds each. These jaws gripped slippery melamine with ease. Great tool but moving heavy slabs is still tricky.
