IMHO the only way to detect shorts in trucks and buses where you have to cover a lot of space. I've been using these types of detectors for years and couldn't even calculate how much time they saved. What I like is the sound signal. You can wire the tool to the fuse panel (I usually make the ends that go into the fuse sockets on the fuse panel with plastic blades by breaking apart the plastic fuse and using the metal ends to connect to each side of the circuit in the fuse ). The panel I'm testing allows you to hook in alligator clips. In the event of a short circuit, the buzzer will turn on and off as the circuit breaker in the tool opens and closes. This allows you to locate the area where the short is located by moving wires and harnesses or disconnecting switches and components throughout the vehicle. When the buzzing stops, you'll know you've found the area where the short is. Then it's just a process of elimination.
