The skimmer works well but you have to stick to the rough pads that come with the kit. I tried replacing it with a thin polypropylene gasket but it clogged the pump. Also, the floating part is too high if you have a standard capped plastic rim and want to keep the water level high. I fixed this by cutting off part of the top and middle tube. Now it works great, although the pump is quite noisy. I use it with a timer for 10 minutes twice a day when I'm not around. Eliminates the need to use an air stone to clean the water surface and also prevents algae from growing on my lid due to bursting bubbles.
