Sometimes you scream at 1 Gbps, and sometimes you need the soothing screech of a 53 Kbps dial-up modem. yes it's 2020 and i needed my desk to actually make a phone call. Because some companies on the planet are still using fax machines - by the way, this technology dates back to the 19th century. But I digress. I needed something I could just plug in and send data to. You know how the device is plug and play. This was cheap, it plugged into the USB bus on my desk and then into the phone line. Yes, I still have a telephone in the house. I never give out the number, they never call. I call it the "Let's abuse the telemarketer" line. So it gives me an easy way to send a fax (now I just print and go) and also access all the good BBS sites that still exist (okay, maybe not). It doesn't have a speaker, so you won't hear those sweet handshakes as it tries to negotiate the best possible speed with everyone it's talking to.
