I only had an older non-Automax version and it worked great. So I bought 2 of these to hold the .812" stacked cherry panels tightly together at each end of the edges of the cabinet body. They work great, great quality and very solid construction. The automax feature is all they say, set the clamping force once one and it's good for materials of different thickness I have two tips: 1. If you use them when the pocket holes are INSIDE the corners of the case and not as shown in the Kreg photos where the pocket holes are outside the case Especially in the corners of the body. You will then need to install an extra board under a piece of wood with no holes that protrudes about an inch past the 90 degree angle. Then the end of the ball joint clamp does not protrude about halfway around the corner It's under the extra board you installed.2 You can attach another piece of wood to the thick 2x4 that's actually 3-1/2 inches is fat. When you insert the end of the clamp shank into a blind hole drilled in a piece of wood, this Automax clamp opens wide enough for the swivel ball clamp to clamp a 3-1/2 inch 2x4. 4x4 is really only 3-1/2 on the side. This refers to drilled blind holes for housing screws, not HD screws! Otherwise, a must-have tool for pocket holes. Buy at least 2!
