I'm done with "cheap radios". I am an experienced radio user and have been familiar with radios since the vacuum tube days. Yes, even portable ones that use those 1 volt bulbs. Fast forward to today and I can confirm that there is one big difference between this Sangean and $20 knockoffs. Well, if you're happy with the FM radio in your phone, or think a $20 laptop is fine, then by all means go ahead. This radio is wasted on you. You will buy it and you will not be able to rate it. On rare occasions, the light can come on and you'll understand why someone spends so much money on a "pocket radio". Radio has NO vices. It is sensitive and selective in all areas. This is AM, FM and NOAA weather. The built-in speaker is ok at best, but the radio shines with decent headphones. The headphone cable is an antenna. I think that's more of a feature than a bug as countless telescopic whips have been destroyed over the years. It drains its 2-cell AA almost constantly. The display is bright, clear and large. I like the yellow backlight. Yes, it has memory for your favorite AM/FM. For weather stations, this radio does not scan or do THE SAME. The build quality is excellent. Although the case is plastic, it feels solid in the hand. A nice touch is the hinged battery door. won't let you charge It works normally with rechargeable batteries. They are simply not charged for anything. Since the battery life is very good, I only use alkaline. There are several other radio stations in this class. Not many people disagree. As an alternative I would add a portable C crane and a discontinued Radio Shack 12-802. If you don't need NOAA weather, consider the DT-210. I rarely give 5 stars. This sangyan deserves it. The radio has no real defects and performs excellently. Yes, there is a difference between this and cheaper copies. You have to decide for yourself whether this is sufficient for a purchase decision. For me it is a guardian.
