An important detail for my 1997 BMW, this one comes with a socket that is usually missing along with the probe. I still had the socket, but it was so damaged by the environment under the car that I had to replace it anyway. The temperature reading -40 did not change immediately after replacing the probe - but wait a minute! It started to rise slowly, 1 degree at a time as I drove and only reached the right temperature after about 25 minutes.
