Came with an extra part ?

Good product for the price. I got the one for Alien Bees. Mine came through (fulfilled by Best Buy) with no damage, but the packaging was just barely adequate. The three little rods that hold the central reflector looked like the ones in the pictures with little nuts to screw on the ends. There was something funny about the adapter ring for Alien Bees. The adapter ring was composed of two parts held together with four screws. The first was a thin, stamped sheet metal, dish shaped ring designed to fit the Alien Bees clamps. The other part was a complex metal casting with several projections and sockets. This looked like a speedring you'd use for a softbox or octobox - the sockets are for the rods that form the box. But wait, this is a beauty dish, not a box!I removed the four screws holding the two rings together and threw away the complex metal casting. Then I attached the sheet metal ring to the back of the beauty dish using four different screws that I assume were provided for that purpose. The assembled beauty dish fits my Alien Bees units perfectly! It's weird that the manufacturer would include an expensive extra part that you just throw away. There were no instructions to explain things.Update: I really love the light I get with this modifier. I'm going to be using it together with my other modifiers in multi-light setups. The color balance is a bit on the blue side compared to my other modifiers, but that won't be a big problem.

Pros
  • Lighting Controls & Modifiers
Cons
  • The kit is not particularly user-friendly for novice photographers, who may struggle to navigate the various components and achieve the desired lighting effect
