Having done electrical work for about 40 years I just held the box up to the wall and used a marker to stencil. Unfortunately, this can sometimes be a problem when things get tight or when it's difficult to hold the level and box securely. So this 'smart' tool immediately caught my attention when I saw it when I was looking for something different. It's simple and it works. Most are for (ugh) plastic boxes, and that's fine. The smaller part that separates from the larger one is perfect for a single Steel City or Raco box, including the side protrusions. Just hold it to the wall and paint, no problem! If you're using an old work box with side brackets, you'll need to add a notch on each side.
