It will undoubtedly become a bestseller and the default lens on half of Canon cameras. The prior version was fantastic, but there were some issues that the demanding photographer might have had, particularly with oblique focus at infinity, front or back, after some lens shock with prolonged use. It's no longer so fantastically made of plastic. The image hasn't altered much, but the lens is now worthy of use by any photographer rather than being a cheap, flimsy compromise lens. I also used a pancake-sized 40mm 2,8 stm, but the 50mm is somehow more soulful. However, if you have the money, it is preferable to purchase a 35mm f2 from the earlier model, or even better, a 35mm f2 that is usm or a sigma art 35 mm. It's unfortunate that $50 did not show up before the price hike. However, in the context of the market, it is still the most affordable.
