Review on πŸ–ŒοΈ da Vinci Casaneo Watercolor Brushes in Black by Alma West

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This has always been one of my favorite little cartridges - whether traveling or not.

I have a size 4-1503 Kolinsky (Daniel Smith trademark) that is probably over 15 years old and still going strong. It has been part of my sketch and watercolor box for many years. It was always one of my favorite little laps, road or not. Last year I added the da Vinci 6 and 8 series 1503 travel brushes and the 1573 series da Vinci 10 travel brushes to my growing watercolor set. Back then, I couldn't justify about $100 for a size 10 1503 Sable, and the Cosmotop synthetic material, while pretty good, still left a hole in the Sable. When I stumbled across this set of 3 and saw the amazing price I just had to order them. Right now, the three brushes at Revain, when purchased individually, cost about $170...almost $90 more than this set. This is an amazing deal, but better yet, this is an amazing deal on three very comfortable, well made, high quality sable brushes. The price of the set was less than buying a size 10. That pushed me over the edge. I found them to feel better in hand than metal bodied travel brushes which to me feel unbalanced and smooth. They are doing particularly well. After use, they can simply be thrown into a bag or bag. When I get home I wash them thoroughly with Master's soap, leave the soap on my hair and then let it dry overnight before wrapping. The soap keeps the hair sharp so the body is light and undamaged. When dried without soap, the hair stretches and becomes difficult to style. However, it is best not to let them dry slowly in the case as the ventilation is small and the hair does not dry fast enough to avoid mildew. I highly recommend these travel brushes as great tools. They sharpen well, hold plenty of water and can be shaken to dry completely to adjust color. Size 4 and 6 are easy to forget they were made for travel (size 10 is quite thick compared to a standard brush but still does a good job). I use mine almost as often as the standard full-size brushes. And you can't "afford" them at a bargain price. The cover is also good by the way! Five stars for quality and price.
