Review on Aqua Flo Aquarium Filter Media Thick by Jennifer Powell

Background: My 1000 gallon koi pond suffered from New Pond Syndrome with planktonic algal blooms in late spring when pond temps rose above 60F. While water tests showed beneficial bacteria had taken root, floating plankton algae remained, turning the water dark brown/green. After waiting four weeks without water treatment I bought this filter cloth and added two layers to the skimmer box behind the skimmer screen and a large filter cloth and two layers of fabric to the waterfall filter box just before (upstream) the bag of Bio-Balls. I haven't encountered any problems with the pump sucking the skimmer box dry, so two layers of this fabric in the skimmer and waterfall (4 layers total) still allowed the water to flow easily. Performance: After two days, the water began to become significantly clearer. I took the cloth out of the skimmer box and ran my hand over it to find a large amount of dark brown/green water/algae in the filter. After rinsing and replacing I let the cloth sit for another two days and the water became even clearer and I can now see objects at the bottom of the pond (3 feet deep). I rang the skimmer box fabric to find a ton of brown/green water/algae trapped again. At this rate, I expect the water to clear within a week or two. The fabric shows no signs of rotting, tearing/wearing or ringing. Conclusion: Great product as every source I've read states that the skimmer's filter cloth doesn't capture floating planktonic algae. I will be using this filter cloth all season long as it works so well.
