Unless you are a pond keeper this will take a LONG time.

Wow. You no longer have to buy filter material for a long time! 12" x 6 feet is a lot of material, especially for the average aquarist who only has a few aquariums. The media is quite dense and we didn't trim it, just squeezed as much material as possible into our 8 filters to accommodate it to allow for maximum bacterial growth was found within a week and with the exception of our catappa leaf betta tanks the water in all of our tanks is as clear as bottled water we are very happy with this…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Crumpled

Junk - beware buyer, paint runs into the tank

One star from me. Bought after review. I had a perfectly drained seawater tank (over a year old) and wanted to purify the water beyond what my filter sock could provide. I added this stuff and after 2 hours I noticed a green tinge in the water. I removed this garbage, changed 25% of the water and watched the aquarium for a day. The water is clean - no problems. To confirm my suspicions, I re-added this junk and again noticed a green cast. Clear bleeding from dye. Hopefully this doesn't have any

Works reasonably well but definitely not 1 inch thick

Cuts easily and holds up in the aquarium better than other cheap rolls of this material. It's actually somewhere between 5/8" and 3/4" thick because the white part is so thin and thin and remains compressed after compression. Bought this to replace the regular polyfill I used in my aquaclear 110 aquaclear 110 is a large filter so I get 18 usable pads from this roll because they are so thin I double the pads and changing them at weekly water changes must get fibers all over.

Not worth it if you have a heavy bin

The pad is only 1/2 inch. The area that captures larger particles (including the image of the white part) is so thin that when I pulled out the cleaning pad after 2 weeks, it was 70% clear and the green part was saturated. When I installed this pad on my FX6 I also used a river pad underneath this one. Again after 2 weeks the green part was flooded. The riverbed below this one was very dirty and had collected most of the particles. I now have 3 of these gaskets on my filter at the same time…

  • Delivery was very quick

Love it!: Fish & Aquatic Pets

This is much easier for aquarium filters than pre-made carbon cartridges. They were the bane of my existence for a while because they have to be changed every 4 weeks because the carbon stops working, but that's where all the good bacteria live, so I had to cut the blue thread off the cartridge, remove each piece of carbon and put the used thread in the filter with a new cartridge so as not to break the cycle; every four weeks. Now I can just crop and paste it. It doesn't need to be changed…

  • Sleek Design
Cons
  • Something Different

I'm not sure how it got so many good reviews.

I have 2 turtles in separate tanks with separate canister filters. One tank had 1 small fish with a softshell turtle and the other tank had 2 adult goldfish with my red-eared slider. I read all the good reviews about this medium and decided to give it a try as a cheaper replacement for mechanical filters. I've used both the Penn Plax brand cascade filters and their generic version in my canisters with no problems. I bought them and cut them to fit. I cleaned and restarted everything as usual. I

Amazing how handy a secondary filter is for a pond system

Background: My 1000 gallon koi pond suffered from New Pond Syndrome with planktonic algal blooms in late spring when pond temps rose above 60F. While water tests showed beneficial bacteria had taken root, floating plankton algae remained, turning the water dark brown/green. After waiting four weeks without water treatment I bought this filter cloth and added two layers to the skimmer box behind the skimmer screen and a large filter cloth and two layers of fabric to the waterfall filter box just

  • Doubtful

Not 1 inch thick, shipping took forever

I'll start shipping. From Indiana to Idaho in three weeks. To be honest the seller it's not his fault I just want people to know I've been waiting for weeks. It seemed to fall off the ground. Tracking said it was in/near Chicago for 8 days, but that doesn't account for all the other times it just.disappeared. Other things ordered at the same time came in 4-5 days, so of course it was an anomaly. I wrote to finally just ask for a refund (even Amazon said what looks like my package is missing)…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Update availability
