Review on πŸ” Enhanced Magnavox NB500MG1F Blu-ray Disc DVD Player with HDMI, 1080p Upconversion, and SD Card Slot by Franz Esquivel

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good Blu-ray player with no frills

I bought this on Black Friday 2009 for $78. I connected it to a Panasonic 42-inch 720P Plasma HDTV model #TH-42PX60U using an HDMI cable that I bought from Amazon for less than $5. The picture quality of this Blu-ray player is amazing, just like my Samsung. BDP-1500 connected to my HDTV 1080. No difference in quality. Boot times are a bit slower than my Samsung but only a few seconds longer so not a problem for me. More expensive and without a front-facing display of the device, but if all you want is a great display and HD sound quality when watching Blu-ray and/or DVD movies, this device will definitely not disappoint for most. The website isn't very user friendly and there is little or no online support, so I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5. Both the product and the customer service of the manufacturer are equally important to me. for this unit but so far this unit has played all of my Blu-ray movies including the latest releases like GI Joe and Transformers. Some of the negative reviews I've read are probably due to feature expectations or not knowing how to set it up properly. Read the instructions, it only takes 5-10 minutes but it's worth it. Break the hype of having to buy HDMI cables over $40. As I said, the ones sold on AMAZON.com for $2-$10 work exactly the same (just make sure they're fast). The monster HDMI cable I have on my 1080 HDTV doesn't look any better than the one that costs less than $5 with this Magnavox.
