I bought 10 of these directly from the manufacturer. Controller may not work. Zlink can be battery powered (and uses the very common AAA) but can also be connected to an external 5V power supply, giving a few more possibilities. When externally powered it acts as a repeater so it can be a bridge to your far away devices with a much higher refresh rate. On battery power, it wakes up every minute to look for water and every hour to report the temperature. (Battery-powered similar devices report leaks instantly, so click here. When externally powered, the temperature is reported every minute (configurable) and water is detected almost immediately. The included 4-foot rope sensor is less convenient, although I wish I actually prefer it a regular contact sensor that takes up very little space. You can't hide it behind a toilet, for example. But the sensor connects via a regular 3.5mm jack, so you can make your own sensors. I tried the leak sensor Dome sensor and it works fine.If you want to protect the water pipe and not the device you can wrap the rope sensor around the pipe. Conclusion: Pretty good water sensor especially if you have a big house and can place several of them next to it.
