Thank goodness AMD is back in the game. For years the i7 line was something of a no-brainer and in my opinion the overclocked i5 was the best option for gaming. But AMD, putting pressure on Intel, has now given us two more physical cores on the i7 and it's a great device. I'm not an overclocker so didn't get the K version but the 8700 is a great machine. It runs noticeably cooler than the 7700 on my friends PC (the transistor spacing is wider on the 8700, resulting in better thermal performance, but it's on a larger chip). I play a lot of sims where the CPU is usually the bottleneck (it doesn't matter how fast your graphics card is, if the CPU can't compute the physics fast enough the framerate drops), but that brute force comes through it. I'm very impressed.
