Great Tool For Cutting 2-Inch PVC/ABS Pipe

We have a large rural property and I’m something of a DIY-er. I often work with large PVC and ABS plastic pipe. I’ve cut pipe like this in many ways, including with a handsaw, power saw, and Dremel tool with a wheel cutter. Problem with a handsaw – I sometimes don’t get my cut to line up all the way around and have to correct with a lot of file-work. With the Dremel, it heats the plastic up so it melts and I get globs of melted plastic along the edge I have to deburr. I bought one of those rotating-wheel cutters, the kind I use on 1/2-inch copper pipe, that said it was good for 2” pipe. Turns out, 2-inch plastic pipe is too thick for the jaws. This tool solved that problem. Now I can get clean, straight edges that don’t have to be deburred.First, open the blade so the tool is wide open. Insert your pipe, marked where you want to cut it off. Squeeze the handles and the knife ratchets in, one click at a time. Set the blade on your mark and ratchet again so the knife begins to score the plastic. Rotate the pipe by hand all the way around. Tighten another click and repeat. Eventually you’ll cut through. By the way, the video on this page shows someone just cutting tubing with a single squeeze of the tool. This will only work on soft plastic. Try this on thick PVC or ABS pipe and it plain won’t work. You have to cut a little at a time by rotating against the blade. The tool is rugged, the blade is sharp and I’m glad to have it in my toolbox.
