Review on BAOFENG UV-5R5 Dual Band Two-Way Radio: 5W Power, VHF & UHF, Complete Kit with Large Battery (Camo) by Sai A Nyi ᠌

Reliable purchase, guaranteed to be a good purchase.

In their purest form, walkie-talkies require registration and are inaccessible to anybody without an amateur radio license (due to too wide a range). But, while using a walkie-talkie like this while linked to a computer, you can block all bands except LPD or PMR. Nevertheless, you can only restrict the range of the original radio. This will not work for fakes. You can choose "MSG" from menu item 38 (ponmsg), which can help you spot a phony. Now, if the radio turns on and says "YABAO UV-9A," it is a fake. I found a lengthy list of external indicators that you can use to spot a phony on YouTube. Read the additional comments on the reviews before making a purchase on AliExpress. Most people start off by giving a positive review, but when they find out they were duped, they are powerless to modify it and can only add an angry comment. A merchant with a stellar reputation and a warehouse in Hong Kong is selling the fakes.

Pros
  • Low cost. wide range of frequencies. the capacity to hear FM radio. adjustable conditions. The ability to configure settings and frequencies through a computer (requires a special cable).
Cons
  • Many fakes. My radio has a tuning difference of roughly 9 ppm. It's over 4kHz for the PMR band, so when I choose channel 2, I'm actually operating almost between channels 1 and 2. However, I only have a phony walkie-talkie, so possibly the settings are incorrect.
