Review on CLHPT AN101 Multimeter Ultra Thin Electrical by Reggie Higdem

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Suitable for Disposable Portable Meter

This is the unbranded version of the meter, best known as the Aneng AN101. The two gauges are functionally and aesthetically identical, except this one has no logo and (I think) slightly different gauges. Packaging, instructions or batteries were not included. The meter is very cheap, on par with those free port freights - in fact, slightly inferior in terms of build quality and performance. However, it is very small and light, which was my main criteria as I needed something unobtrusive that I could use for basic continuity testing. Some of the reviews I found about the AN101 mentioned that the probes/leads have unusually high resistance. Mine aren't that bad - about 0.2 ohms each. The wires connect to the meter via 4mm banana plugs, but the sockets are about half the depth of normal, so the standard banana plugs don't fully insert (and won't work at all with a shroud). I don't know how hard it would be to find spare wires with connectors that fit the case, but you could easily solder some of these directly onto the board if needed. It beeps when the buttons are pressed, but not when the dial is rotated. Passthrough mode does what I need. It's not a fix, but the beep is otherwise fine. There is no function memory, so you have to press the "Select" button each time you want to switch to continuous mode. My main complaints are that the probes are unreliable and the response time is slow when using autoranging. However, this is true of every cheap tiny multimeter I've seen. I can connect several mini grabbers to solve the sensor problem. I wouldn't use this to measure line current or voltage.
