Something went wrong somewhere between the conception of this idea and the production of the product. My home is 16-17 years old and was wired by qualified electricians to standard Leviton outlets with a ground lug at the bottom - in accordance with electrical codes. SnapPower GuideLight 2 is advertised as "easy install", "plug and play". Spring. This statement is an oversimplification even for households with grounded sockets. The port is the top one (which does not apply to the code). And if the sockets are installed upside down, the unit's plastic pins (15/32"), which should fit between the socket connector screws (3/8"), will be too wide for the installation. The pins and the position of the mounting hole of the device are wrong. See photos. Photo 1 was taken while I was holding the socket and aligning the unit's mounting screw hole with the corresponding hole on the socket. Note that the electric eye's on-off sensor is on the bottom, and the ground connections are also on the bottom. This is the correct configuration. Except: Pay attention to the mismatch of the device with the socket. Photo 2 was taken while I was holding the socket and inserting the prongs of the device between the terminal screws on the sides of the socket (after trimming the excess width of the prongs). Please note that the electric eye's on/off sensor is on the top. But the block and bushing are now aligned. Photo 3 shows the installation in the only possible way. The light points UP. Which defeats the whole purpose.
