Review on 🌊 Enhance Your Aquatic Environment with the Advanced Kessil Spectral Controller X by Matthew Gomatham

Not worth the hassle or money

I'm going to start using this controller with an old model Kessil 360s. This controller advertises backwards compatibility, but that's not all. Presumably newer X bulbs tie into the controller and I think at least my annoyance would be less if that was the case. Let's start by saying that the instructions that come with it are almost useless and wrong in one case. The ones on Kessil's website are slightly better, and Kessil's YouTube videos are even slightly better. After watching the video for 20 minutes, I found that contrary to the instructions, I had to plug the device into a USB power adapter. I had to watch Kessil's videos and a few others to figure out how to convince the controller that I actually connected the lights. As others have said here, the display looks like it should be touch-sensitive. Instead, it uses legacy touchpad technology with a sensitivity that makes you think of using a hammer instead of a finger. The controls and logic are very confusing. A good guide will probably help here too. Instead, it's trial and error. The last thing I'm going to talk about here is programming. For the older (non-X) 360, this essentially becomes a timer with an added dimming feature. There is actually some programming flexibility, but I have yet to get it working. There is a demo mode but I have yet to get it working. All in all, a $100 timer that stresses your life with very limited extra features isn't worth it to me. If Revane doesn't take it back I'll throw it on eBay.

Pros
  • Nice touch
Cons
  • A few minor things
