I finally tried it. With a completely dead battery, it doesn't work at all, doesn't even try to charge it. I was able to use the jump starter to give the battery a little boost and it tried again and it started charging. After a few hours of charging I checked it and it literally did nothing, the battery was still charged exactly as it was when I put it on. I used a tester to determine this and it actually lost some battery power. So if something happened, it drained the battery. I used a different charger and charged it and now the battery works great.
