Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Milescraft 1316 CabinetMate - Shelf Pin Drill Jig by Travis Chavis

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Beware. This is the 1316 "B " model. Will not work with spare bit 2313.

I bought tool 1316 to build some built in shelves and bookshelves for my son's new house. After reading the reviews I thought it would be prudent to purchase a replacement tip and it was listed as commonly bought together. I received the stencil and everything was as expected. I opened everything up and put the bits in the case holder. Great idea to put everything together. When I started making the bookshelf I put the drill bit in my drill bit and immediately realized the ring was too big to fit. I tried another one and it fits perfectly. I contacted Revain and they immediately sent me a new beat. The same situation. I contacted them again and sent both bits back. The original bit worked to complete the job. I have checked the set screw regularly and it has never loosened. I had drill shavings in my bit, but a quick snap of the spring every three or four holes cleared it up nicely. I contacted Milescraft directly this week and received a response from them the next day. Apparently they changed the mount some time ago and the old bits don't work with the new mount. Under their guidance, I discovered that they had sent me a Model 1316B. The bits I received were 2313 models, not the "B" version. Hence the reason they didn't work. I tried to find Revain for another model but to no avail. I hope Revane fixes this in front of you soon. I've tried to find out if other bits will work with the jig, but none of the manufacturers list the diameter of the sleeve used on the jig. There has to be something brand specific. Anyway, overall a good product. Would have given 4+ stars if it wasn't for the wrong bits issue. hold it tight Clean the chips regularly. Use a high-speed drill and light pressure to avoid shavings in soft wood. Hope that helps.

Pros
  • Built in closed compartment for storing bits and index pins
Cons
  • Expensive
