Review on πŸ”§ Hakko FX888D 23BY Digital Soldering Station: Superior Performance and Precision by Paul Hyde

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Works perfectly. The interface is not very good.

This soldering station makes a very high-quality impression and has some nice features. I think it will last, and it's a big upgrade from the $20 120 volt constant power iron that I've gotten by with for the past few years. I don't know why I waited so long to get a good quality one. As many others have mentioned, the two-button digital UI isn't very good. This station has some features, but you need to read the manual and follow the instructions carefully to access it. This device has a BIG problem. It is VERY easy to accidentally reset the temperature calibration by hundreds of degrees. Changing the temperature calibration and changing the current iron temperature are almost the same procedure, and it's not immediately obvious that you're doing one or the other. I did this almost immediately after taking it out of the box and it was extremely frustrating. Luckily, I found a YouTube video that explains how to factory reset it (it's not in the instructions or on the Hakko website). Otherwise I would never be able to set the right temperature again as I don't have the equipment to measure/calibrate the temperature.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Almost never
