Soldered fuses in 2019

So it says it takes 120v as max so I'll admit plugging it into a regular outlet was a mistake. However, knowing that this unit has a fuse, I opened it (btw this doesn't seem to void the warranty as there are no stickers on it to say it doesn't). or any other information about it intended to discourage you from doing so). When I opened it up I found that the fuse had blown but also that they had hard soldered the fuse onto the small circuit board. So there was no way to replace that 5 cent fuse…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Quality

Works perfectly. The interface is not very good.

This soldering station makes a very high-quality impression and has some nice features. I think it will last, and it's a big upgrade from the $20 120 volt constant power iron that I've gotten by with for the past few years. I don't know why I waited so long to get a good quality one. As many others have mentioned, the two-button digital UI isn't very good. This station has some features, but you need to read the manual and follow the instructions carefully to access it. This device has a BIG…

  • Consistent test results

Glad I followed my dad's advice

I bought the Hakko FX888D soldering station many years ago with only limited soldering experience. This should be my main tool when building a custom mechanical keyboard; my first soldering project in years. Of course, I was concerned that I would be spending so much per station compared to other competing products that are offered at lower prices. However, I'm glad I followed my father's advice: Having the right tool for the job improves both your workflow and your end product. . I'm glad I…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Some small things

Very disappointing. I hope it's just broken

Absolute nonsense. Hopefully mine is just defective given the rave reviews but it took me too long to figure it out and now I can't return it. I've been soldering for decades and I know what I'm doing. The thing isn't heating up enough, or it's just getting too hot. I've ruined a couple of Xbox One/360 controllers, Sega game consoles that I've repaired because the solder doesn't melt properly and when it finally melts, the circuit board overheats, the components burn and the pads lift off. It…

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Very expensive

Worst control ever. Serious.

Yes, the build quality is good, and yes, it does its job well. However, there is something you should know before buying. I wish I knew. Other reviewers, very condescendingly, described the controls as "non-intuitive". To warn future buyers, I'll be blunt: the UI is a smoking heap. Hmm garbage. You get a three-digit display and two buttons, each with multiple functions. As others have pointed out, the design decision itself was stupidly stingy. A pen and another number (to indicate short words)

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

I used to work for a company that had a couple of Hakko soldering stations. They worked fine. But because of the price, I never thought of buying it for my own use. Every soldering iron I've ever owned costs less than ten dollars. And after a few years, it was no surprise that they were ready to be thrown in the bin. I looked at several good irons ranging from $40 to $60. But I figured if I was willing to spend that much, I'd spend a little more to get something really good. Pros: 1. It heats…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
