I took a bit of a risk because when I was writing this the main image of these pajama bottoms was a beige pair of stretchy boxer shorts that were *ugly*. But I read the description and it described sleep pants. So yes, it is a velvety fabric, similar to micro velor, with a sheen in the fibers, as in the manufacturer's second picture. They are very, very soft and the fabric is quite dense. The patchwork is printed, not the real patchwork. Though a bit long for his 29" inseam, the waist and fit fit perfectly. Not cold enough to wear them around the house yet, but he seemed happy with them when he tried them on.
