This drug is not a panacea and in my experience works best for cases of extreme anxiety. From what I understand, parts of their brain literally shut down when a cat is scared, preventing the animal from processing information and making rational decisions. That's what happened to my terrified shelter cat when I brought her home almost two years ago. After weeks of trying to lure the poor guy off the couch, where he would spend all his waking hours (and more), I finally broke down and bought the Feliway plugins (an expensive proposition for something no one is sure of whether there is any result at all). . I was ABSOLUTELY HAPPY to see the cat peek out of hiding almost immediately and getting bolder every day. The first two weeks seemed like a miracle - the cat not only explored but also allowed me to approach and TOUCH it - and I almost resigned myself to living with a ghost cat behind the sofa. I was a little disappointed when I realized that fear was the only thing Feliway seemed to work for. This does not prevent the cat from scratching the sofa (I tried a spray). That doesn't make a shy cat friendly - mine still avoids all new visitors and refuses to show up to strangers until the second or even third visit. I would recommend monitoring your cat's behavior for positive changes. Once the improvement stops, it's probably time to stop using that product for a few weeks and see what happens. I ended up buying two sets of bars (in addition to the original two bottles that came with the stopper) but on the last two or three bar changes I didn't feel they made a difference. I decided that the cat had adjusted as best it could and stayed there.
