Review on Johnson Pumps 72303 001 Ultima Switch by Isaac Morales

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Every boat should have these

I wired these independently from my two bilge pumps with their own wiring and fuse and even connected directly to a different battery than my bilge pumps. so it has to be a really good backup system. If you turn it off, it cuts the power and doesn't drain the battery at all, so you can plug it directly into the battery for relatively reliable protection (both my bilge pumps are plugged directly into the battery too, which is ABYC code I believe ). It works really well, it's small so it's easy to find the best spot to mount it, and the sensor isn't mechanical so it should be more reliable (hopefully!). It's pretty loud too (and I think you could even plug it into a bigger speaker or something). I haven't measured the volume, but if you're 100 feet away you can hear it just fine when you test it. I installed the switch under the artillery piece in a somewhat exposed spot (it gets a bit wet when it rains on the side or in very rough seas), but I caulked all my connections and it was tight the entire time. It's been great so far and it's very cheap insurance! I've had several other boats and never owned one and now that I've gotten this one I'm wondering why I didn't get it sooner. It's an easy setup and worth it for the peace of mind. Edit: 2 years later it still works perfectly. I filled in the back of the boat last spring to check the height adjustment on the unit to make sure it was still working. left just when I thought it would. Great little unit.
