Raspbian and Permissions Issues

This seemed to work right away with a SanDisk Extreme SSD used as an external drive on the Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspbian Buster. Formatted the drive normally and accepted file transfer and so on. Permissions got shaky on every reboot for files/folders on that drive, and some apps on the Pi kept throwing "Permission Denied" errors when trying to rename or move despite being granted access. Different drives caused the same problems; The problems disappeared when the same drives were used with a different USB solution (an unpowered enclosure). UPDATE: I have now used them with three different SSDs and a 2.5" HDD. None of them worked well with Linux. They format perfectly, mount well, and then when you use them, they start throwing "directory not found" errors. Different cables and cases work great with the same drives. The return period has already expired. Unsatisfied. It's a shame, I bought five of these to use for Pi rackmount cases with easy external drive installation. Maybe try another brand, but four of them are coming back; It would have returned five, but I destroyed the box by opening one of these, and here it is. Maybe it's useful for Windows, we'll see.

Pros
  • Cables and Connections
Cons
  • Legacy Model
