Review on Firestone Ride Rite 2558 Brackets Inflation by Nick Winnett

Definitely NOT the exact bolt match for the 2020 Frontier

Sorry, wrong button pressed. I hope this full review gets published. I've checked multiple sources - they all say this Firestone #2558 kit was a straight bolt that fitted all Frontiers through 2021. That's not even remotely true. Frontiers underwent engine and transmission changes for the 2020 and 2021 models. And it's clear that Firestone engineers didn't even bother to inspect the package. Can't speak to previous models but I need airbags for my 2020 so I can tow a bit - and this Firestone kit was the only one I could find that said it would fit. The kit itself looks pretty decent - Firestone has been making airbags for a long time and I have no reason to doubt the quality. And the passenger side really snapped into place. From the driver's side it wasn't that easy. Nissan chose to place the carbon vaporizer on a heavy mount that bolts to the frame - right where the top plate of the bag should be. I considered rearranging the canister but gave up on that idea because of all the molded tubing and wires leading to the canister. Moving would be a big problem imho. I considered cutting the bracket that holds the canister, but in the end I decided that this would weaken the bracket too much and that the airbag panel would still interfere with the canister itself. In the end I decided to just cut off one leg of the airbag panel. As a result, I only secured the plate at 3 instead of 4 points. This also meant I had to drill and cut the frame to attach the plate mount, which the U-bolt couldn't use. I'm not keen on this, but since the bag just presses the plate against the frame I don't think (hope) it's going anywhere. In addition, the frame is quite thin, so the threaded hole in the frame doesn't particularly interfere with threading. I also had to drill a hole in the bottom panel to move the bag about an inch so it wasn't at an odd clamping angle when everything was assembled. Last but not least, the supplied carriage bolts are useless for attaching the floor panels (both sides). The design has a screw head in the top of the panel and the nut screws on from the bottom. Impossible as the bolts are WAY too long and even if you cut them off there will be brake cables and hoses on both sides lying under the mounting plates. The only sensible solution is to buy ordinary screws of the right length so that the screw head is on the bottom and the nuts go on top. This prevents damage and malfunctions to the brake lines. So it can be made to fit on the driver's side, but it's far from an easy procedure and far from optimal. The Firestone folks have to do a physical check before saying anything will fit the new model. I hope the photos help you understand the complexities before you decide to try it yourself in 2020.
