Review on 🔧 Dewalt DCD791D2 Compact Li-Ion Brushless Drill by Wiktor ygado ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like the product, the quality did not disappoint.

For a relatively long time I chose a screwdriver to replace the old Bosch GSR12V, by the way, it still functions perfectly, with converted Cd-> Li batteries. But firstly, I wanted something lighter and more compact, and secondly, with more momentum. and thirdly, probably more technologically advanced (brushless), etc. ) I chose between Bosch GSR-180-2-Li and this Dewalt (perhaps the comparison is not correct, Bosch would be more logical to take for comparison, for example GSR 18 EC). I want to say right away that I have a tool from both manufacturers, but more than Bosch. Both did not fail yet, moderate operation. What he noted for himself: In Bosch: the button is more interesting and of better quality, it is more convenient to turn it on (it doesn’t crawl along the guides, as in DeWalt. It seemed to me that it dangles). Switching the speed mode is similar. The case is head and shoulders above the quality of the plastic. In principle, I liked the quality of the plastic itself more. Perhaps the attitude is biased, it's just that Bosch sympathizes more.) The contact groups on the battery look better. 30% cheaper. But, Bosch: the moment below and the problem with the availability, so to speak, of this moment. The screwdriver is constantly triggered by protection, not giving the opportunity to fully realize the capabilities of the tool for screwing or drilling. The brush motor, plus the brushes can not be changed separately (according to the service staff), only with the motor. A brushless one costs other money (the same GSR 18 VE-EC). One way or another, the choice was made in favor of DeWalta, I really hope the instrument will please for many years and will not let you down.

Pros
  • 1. High moment. 2. Metal cartridge. 3. Build quality. 4. Backlight. 5. Relatively light and compact. 6. 3 years warranty.
Cons
  • 1. There is a backlash of the cartridge, on the old 2022. Bosch, surprisingly, is not there. I’m not yet ready to say how critical it is for my tasks, but at least it’s not pleasant. According to the sensations, the deviation from the axis is about 1-1.5 mm. I can be wrong. I looked before buying in the store and I will say that the situation is similar. 2. The jaws of the cartridge, which is also surprising, do not close completely, which is certainly not encouraging. I haven't checked, but I think that the 1.5 drill will simply fall out. 3. The backlight is of course bright and perfectly illuminates the work area, however, the intention of the DeWalt designers regarding the time of its operation is not completely clear. It is also not clear what the purpose of the 3 modes is and why it would be simple not to make the "off" mode instead of one of them. 4. The cartridge, although metal, is tightened unevenly, it feels like it can really bite. By the way, this is being talked about on the Internet.) 5. Battery. Although the purpose of the dangling batteries is to unfasten (but this is not accurate :)) at the time of the fall, but really, to the point of indecency, they teleport strongly in the sled. Having worked with the instrument, you understand that it simply starts to unnerve. Not comfortable. 6. Under the guarantee, many write that 3 years is purely marketing, as such, this manufacturer does not have any service, did not check, I can’t download anything for sure. I hope they lie or the tool is so reliable that you don’t have to check it. 7. Everyone writes about a button with PWM and about an astronomical price (changes by node: engine + button + electronics unit), in case of a breakdown. I won’t say anything yet, and, in general, there is little information on the Internet about the 791st. But I will say this, buying a dewalt grinder a long time ago, similarly, many wrote about the button (precisely about its non-survivability) and its price. By myself, I’ll say that I still have it alive, after constantly getting wood (working with brushes on wood) and metal dust. So I understand, judging by the reviews and the number of replacements from the same reviews, the company earns by selling the button), a joke. I'm skeptical and hope it doesn't disappoint.
