The manufacturer tells you that when the MAX setting is selected, the maximum value of the current flowing through the terminals is detected, which is partly true; However, it is not sensitive enough to measure inrush current, so the MAX setting only captures the maximum current draw after a rapid inrush current has already occurred. That's why I bought this unit, which is why I'm returning it for other clamp meters that can measure inrush current. Aside from the lack of this feature, this gauge is pretty good and looks well built.
