Thought my starter burned out on a lawnmower. It turned out to be a solenoid. I think if I were a better mechanic I would check it out first. Spring. I eventually found that this engine revs the engine much faster and seems to have more power, so maybe my old starter motor was ready to be replaced. The only thing I found wrong was the flywheel sprocket. Then I removed the metal parts from the old starter and put them on the new starter. I also didn't like the quality of some of the parts that came with the new starter.
