My brother (who is about 25 lbs overweight) always uses compression socks to assist him with leg pain. When I received these I had him try them (as I felt he is an expert in what a good compression sock should do). Directly from him, he told me these are some of the best socks he has tried. They hug his calves snuggly (but not to the point of being uncomfortable or cutting off his circulation). They are quality made, having been washed several times they still look like new). He highly recommends these for anyone with leg pain or with a medicinal need (like diabetes) to help with support.
