Review on NGK BUHW 2 Tungsten Electrode Spark by Brad Davis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good Spark Plugs - Ignition Parts

NGK make excellent spark plugs. I can't say I've ever had any problems with them when using them in boats, waveguides and lawn equipment. This particular connector (BUHW-2) is not the one shown in the picture. This is a marine style connector where the electrode tab does not protrude outwards like a traditional connector. I've run them with the same Mercury engine for twenty years now. I do swap them out quite often though as I am using this particular model on a boat that is primarily used in salt water and the bottom two cylinders are exposed to salt water and therefore rust. This can be seen as something bad on the one hand, but also as a positive phenomenon on the other, because in contact corrosion one metal (the connector) corrodes preferentially over the other (the block) when both metals are in electrical contact. Contact in the presence of an electrolyte (salt water) which means it mainly protects the block (since galvanic corrosion will rust one or the other first).

Pros
  • High quality aluminosilicate ceramic insulator for superior strength and heat transfer
Cons
  • Functionality
