Bought this for my wife who broke her ankle and had surgery. She used to use pillows to elevate her leg, but they always went flat and became so lumpy that it hurt where the hardware was placed on her ankle. That helped her a lot. It's at a higher elevation than the pillows that took down the swelling could have reached, meaning her pain is relieved as well. It's soft but holds its shape so she doesn't have to adjust. The first night she slept with him, she actually slept through the night. A few times when not in use, our cat found its way in. He thinks this is his bed. So if she eventually recovers and no longer needs it, the cat will continue to use it. My only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner. !
