They used to be my favorite shoes. If you are new to New Balance 99? series, you may be temporarily impressed because they are better than regular running shoes. However, I have had 6 or 7 pairs, but the last 2 pairs were noticeably inferior to the previous pairs in quality and comfort. All the shoes seem to be breaking, looking very old and losing their shape after a few months of very light use. My last pair started smelling horrible, much worse than foot odor. Curiously, one boot was noticeably worse than the other. However, I used baking soda on the inside of the shoes because I thought it would just stink me. I repeated this process several times to no avail. I noticed a brown spot on the outside of the rubber sole of a very poor shoe and found it to be leaking from a small gap where the sole meets the sole of the shoe. I smelled a dark stain and knew immediately that this little stain was my problem. Incredibly bad smell for such a small stain. I suspect the glue dissolves and oozes out of the shoes making the smell extremely toxic and stinks throughout my bedroom. Even without the toxic smell, these shoes are no longer worthwhile. Premium price, wraparound, New Balance should pay us to wear them. I would avoid these shoes until some action is taken on quality issues.
