Review on QNAP TS-431XeU-8G-US: High-performance 4-Bay 1U Rackmount NAS with 10GbE Network and 8GB RAM by Dennis Moonin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

This is a new product and may have issues

QNAP offers very good features for the price. Your management interface is very good. I had some trouble getting their certificate through my firewall. I wanted to try something in a newer firmware, unfortunately I haven't been able to try it yet (see below). If I allow automatic configuration of the array (UPNP), the array will take ownership of my website. It wasn't a problem for me, I just disabled UPNP in my firewall and was back on the air. Newer firmware looks like you can tweak the services to set up, so this might not be an issue anymore. The SFP+ port works great, I doubt it will scream without an SSD, but that's fine. I was impressed with the transfer speed compared to the removable array. And because this device is thinner, it works great in a network closet in my home office. However, everything seemed perfect. The array died after 3 weeks. I contacted QNAP and they replaced it, but the replacement died after 2 weeks. Both devices died the same way and wouldn't turn on. Unfortunately for me this is now out of the Revain return policy. I've reached out to Revane and it's unlikely they'll let me return now. So I'm stuck with a second dead array and have to wait and see what QNAP will do next. I'm afraid this product is too new to the market and has issues. I have nothing bad to say about QNAP or their support team. There could be something terribly wrong with this model. When this is fixed I'll try to find it and update what's going on here. Actually I wanted to give 5 stars here, but now I have to rate this device very badly.
