I bought this fiber optic media converter to create an ethernet connection between a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) and a ground station controller. Fiber optic solved some of the problems that UTP caused for me. The signals from the 3 cameras and the control connection are transmitted via fiber optic cables. I chose this media converter because it was cheap and had the LC connectors I needed. The small size was also decisive. I removed the case to make it easier to insert the media converter via the mini switch.
