In order to receive traffic reports, the GPS module must use a Bluetooth connection with a smartphone (data plan or Wi-Fi). I've never been able to link it, and even if I could, it's too buggy a system. Glad I got a chance to test it out ahead of an 8,000 mile trip this summer. Add to that the inconvenience of connecting the GPS to a computer for trip planning, it's just poor design - even a $200 refurbished device is overkill. Pay when Google Maps is free and honestly works a lot better. The ONLY thing Garmin wanted to do was make it little more than my Moto phone in my old eyes. My son's old Samsung Note that was sitting in his desk drawer solves this problem.
