I use these with 23 AWG CAT6 copper cable. They are designed to allow the cable jacket to be inserted up to 1/2 inch into the connector. This allows me to cut eight wires with a pair of very small wire cutters and then pull the cable out 1mm. This places the ends of the eight wires INSIDE the connector, so I can guarantee there are no shorts. I use this method because I don't have a new RJ45 crimping tool that crimps and cuts eight wires at a time. My old crimping tool plus small wire cutters do the job just fine. I first bought another brand of RJ45 plugs and their design only allowed the shell to fit 1/4 inch into the plug. I threw them in the trash can. This is the first time I've tried using the new RJ45 pass-through connectors. They are so much easier to use. The eight wires do NOT have to be the same length, and once threaded through the connector, checking the color order is much easier. From now on I will only buy "through" connectors.
