My cats and I love them! I leave my heater at around 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to save money and I wanted it in case the cats wanted to curl up on something warm. At first it seemed that the discs do not retain heat. I would put it somewhere and hoped the cats would use it, but the drives went cold after a few hours. But then I started using them under the covers next to or under my feet at night. They were very cozy and warm! I leave my socks on and use the disc without the case. In the morning the windows were still warm! I have found that the trick is having something warm on the rims will help the rims stay warm and stay warm for many hours. (I sleep 8-10 hours a night.) Since then, cats have also been lying on the intervertebral discs, and the intervertebral discs retain heat to feel warm. I don't often use the cover that comes with the warming pads, although I do place the warming pad under the cat's bedding or under the blanket for the cats to sleep on the pillows.
