Cheaper but you risk it for the cookie.

Even though it's a flow-through cartridge, my moen 1225 shower handle had trouble getting the last inch into the valve. I know it was difficult compared to a genuine Moen cartridge which I bought direct from the company and which I replaced in another shower in my house. Although this cartridge was more expensive, it was very easy to use. When I needed to replace another shower cartridge I chose this product based on the price as it was 50% off and all the reviews were positive 5 stars. Later, when I turned on the shower, the hot and cold water switched places, so I opened the shower handle again to rotate the cartridge 180 degrees to solve this simple problem. Back then, this cartridge showed why it is a cheaper generic version compared to a real Moen cartridge. It was very difficult to remove. I used a moen removal tool and this thing broke into 10 pieces inside my valve! Yes, I removed the locking pin. Yes I used silicone grease to keep it from spreading. Yes, I used penetrating oil when I first had trouble getting it out of the valve. So why did it crash? I'm assuming these aren't exact specs for the real Moen 1225 cartridge, it's a little different and will stick there. So why was it a little harder to fit the comparison in the first place? I think I'm just unlucky to receive a faulty product, which sometimes happens in these cases of generic and brand name purchases. From what I can gather from other reviews you get a passable product most of the time. But be careful buyers, there is a chance you will receive a product that shows why it is cheaper than a branded item. This is why I go to Lowe's for an expensive replacement!
