I use this ruler to measure fabrics. The matte clear plastic actually makes the numbers easier to read but doesn't obstruct seeing what's underneath, so it's pretty easy and smart. All the grid lines on it are great for measuring weird curves and it can be used as a T-square and makes sketching easier. It's also heavy enough to press onto objects to flatten them and the edge is thick enough to use a rotary cutter. Doesn't seem cheap, it's a high quality Lexan. The numbers don't look like they can be erased. This is what it looks like, great ruler with grid, excellent quality and very useful.
