Now that I've worn this hat for a few weeks, I'm pretty satisfied with it and recommend it. I wear it when I go hiking and walking. Please note, I live in an area with relatively mild winters - I think the lowest temperature I've worn the hat so far was in the mid to upper 30s. I haven't had a chance to test the hat in a truly cold climate yet. But, it did perform well when it was in the 40s and very windy and clammy. My ears are sensitive to the cold, and the flaps successfully protected them from aching.My one small gripe is that the backs of the snaps on the chin straps are exposed, and when those cold little metal surfaces touch my skin, I find it a little uncomfortable. Not a dealbreaker, it's just a sensitivity of mine. I am planning to sew a little strip of fabric over them to fix the nitpick.
