My older skinny cat (7.8lbs) measures with my soft sewing tape: collar 9-10”; Chest 16 inches (just behind front legs at widest point); Length 13" from collar to 1.5" from tail. The medium size just fits because it has a soft elastic that doesn't pinch him, but I have a feeling the large size would be even a little better suited to his chest as he's still learning to wear a sweater or harness. The front leg opening is great and he walks more normally with it. Just be aware that you need to be patient and let your pet gradually increase their time in the clothes when they are new to wearing something. I started putting his first harness on before bed (when I wanted to fly with him) a few years ago and extended the time. He's still wearing clothes like he's on drugs 😽
