Review on BOSCH RA1151 Centering Pin and Cone Router Subbase by Charles Alvey

Assembly required. How much will assembly increase the cost?

The fit and finish of this accessory is not what I would expect from a Bosch product. Inserting the pin into the cone wasn't as easy as some reviewers might suggest. I tried to insert the pen manually and it didn't work. The bundle of plastic ribs needs to be deformed to fit/center around the pin. Do not use a metal hammer to drive the pin into the cone. I made that mistake. The pen is soft and swells when struck with a hammer. I had to cut the chain to fit the pin in the 1/4" collet. The method I ended up using was to place a 2x4 cone with a 5/8" pin hole and place the pin with a plastic mallet. After all the trouble assembling the centering cone, I have no confidence that it will provide appreciable positioning accuracy. Oh, someone mentioned that by flipping the pin, you can use this centering cone on a router that comes with a 1/2" collet. Well, good luck to anyone trying to remove and reinsert the pin. Will a plastic cone withstand that much cruelty?
